Our Fields

Heraklion, Where to Eat/DrinkFebruary 13, 2019Isidoros

The story begins 10 years ago, when Isidoros met Manolis for the first time

Isidoros in the field

Isidoros used to live in Athens at that time and work at a hospital, while he sought to change his life and move permanently to the countryside of Crete.

Manolis, who is a master of many construction crafts, was focusing (up through today) on the cultivation of traditional varieties, without the use of chemicals, at the village where he comes from in the Messara valley.

Manolis in action

Isidoros’ dream started to become true when he found a beautiful piece of land at the west end of Messara, not far away from Manolis’ village, when the latter continued to retain and share his precious seeds from traditional varieties, while he also took part in Melitakes, a group of environmentally-conscious people.

The deep, honest friendship that developed between them and their shared interest for preserving the environment and tradition brought about as a result that Isidoros joined Melitakes and started working with Manolis and the rest of the group.

Our group of people agrees that the quality of food is one of the fundamental factors that define our health and the quality of our lives.

We envision a future where food is natural and available to everyone, people live harmoniously in a natural environment and we strive to experience each day as close as possible to that vision.

Today we have at our disposal a wide variety of traditional seeds, farms in a clean natural environment, and knowledge of agro-ecological methods for land management.

With these means, we achieve a great deal of food self-sufficiency, a factor of utmost importance for a good quality of life.

We believe that the spreading of this message to the next generations is crucial to the realization of our vision, that is why we are conducting environmental actions with the children of the local schools.

Now you can come visit our fields

We organize informative environmental actions that are designed both for children and grown-ups, while we are proud for the cleanliness of the products we produce, since when we offer them we would like to wish people to enjoy their meal and not test their luck.

Our fields

Our 2 land plots next to the villages of Listaros and Pirgos can be visited by locals or visitors in Crete who would like to get acquainted to a different relationship to the land, but also taste healthy products as a result of that relationship, such as vegetables and herbs.

We are very pleased to invite you to walk in our plot, to get to know the plants that we grow with respect, to fill up our basket and taste them all together. Afterwards, we can all sit on the same table and enjoy, apart from the delicious Cretan snacks, the sceneries, the sounds and the smells that nature can still offer us.

We are certain that when the time for goodbyes comes, we will be setting a new gathering in the near future.
