The story begins 10 years ago, when Isidoros met Manolis for the first time

Isidoros in the field

At the time, Isidoros was living in Athens and worked at a hospital, but he wanted to live a different sort of life, deep in the countryside of Crete.

Manolis, an experienced and versatile builder, had focused (and still does) on cultivating traditional varieties of fruit and vegetables with no chemical additives, in his home village, Pirgos, on the Messará valley.

Isidoros’ dream started to become true when he found a beautiful piece of land at the west end of Messara, not far away from Manolis’ village, when the latter continued to retain and share his precious seeds from traditional varieties, while he also took part in Melitakes, a group of environmentally-conscious people.

The deep, honest friendship that developed between them and their shared interest for preserving the environment and tradition brought about as a result that Isidoros joined Melitakes and started working with Manolis and the rest of the group.

Today we have at our disposal a wide variety of traditional seeds, farms in a clean natural environment, and knowledge of agro-ecological methods for land management.

With these means, we achieve a great deal of food self-sufficiency, a factor of utmost importance for a good quality of life.

We believe that the spreading of this message to the next generations is crucial to the realization of our vision, that is why we are conducting environmental actions with the children of the local schools.

Our group of people agrees that the quality of food is one of the fundamental factors that define our health and the quality of our lives.

We envision a future where food is available to everyone, people live harmoniously in a natural environment and we strive to experience each day as close as possible to that vision.

Now you can come visit our fields

We organize informative environmental actions that are designed both for children and grown-ups, while we are proud for the cleanliness of the products we produce, since when we offer them we would like to wish people to enjoy their meal and not test their luck.

Our fields

Our two plots of land next to the villages Listaros and Pirgos can be visited by locals and visitors in Crete who would like to create a closer relationship with Mother Earth, and also taste healthy products as a result of that relationship, such as vegetables and herbs.

We are very pleased to invite you to walk in our land, to get to know the plants that we grow with respect, to fill up your basket. Afterwards, we can all sit on the same table and enjoy, apart from the delicious Cretan delicacies, the sceneries, the sounds and the smells that nature abundantly offers us.

We are certain that when the time for goodbyes comes, we will be setting a new gathering for the near future.

The visit starts daily at 10 am and ends at 2 pm.

We start our day with an informative tour in the fields, while you help us with mild work on crops, depending on the needs and the season (weeding, landscaping, herb collection, etc.)

Later on, we collect fresh vegetables and aromatic herbs from the organic garden, cook them and taste them, together with other Cretan dishes based on legumes and cereals from our farms (legumes, vegetarian meatballs, cheese, and fresh salad according to the season).

Beverages (local organic wine, fresh orange/lemon juice, coffee or herb tea)

Straight from the fields to the plate!

The cost for the 4 hours tour is 28 euros per person.
